Wall quilt is in the form of a mandala. Original design was created
for a patient room at Hospice of the Lower Cape Fear. The request was for a piece in bright colors, with a strong central focus.

This is a framed version of a traditional
pineapple quilt block that has been in use by American quilters for generations. These beautiful old patterns
are created here in miniature, using the 100% cotton fabrics preferred by many quilters.
The block measures 3"; adding the frame increases the pieces size to 6". |

Adeline Robertson and Valerie Robertson
collaborated with Pender County artist Ivey Hayes, at his request, to create this fiber interpretation of his original painting.
Original design, hand appliqued and hand quilted. Various fibers (primarily cotton).
This was on display at the ACC summer show July 9-13. Its photo appears in the September 29, 2003 Maryland Home section of the "Baltimore Sun." Close-up images can be seen by
clicking here. |

| Whole Cloth Quilts |
|
|
 |
Whole cloth quilts are quilts whose top is
a single sheet of fabricusually a solid color. The pattern is formed exclusively by the quilting stitch that
holds the three quilt layers together (the top, the center batting, and the backing).

On occasion, Valerie makes bed quilts,
such as the baby quilt pictured here. Baby quilts are beautiful hung on the wall as decoration, but these are
constructed to stand up to the rigors of washing, as children often think up imaginative uses for quilts.
Machine quilting gives the durability that allows a quilt to hold up under daily use. |
